How it Started

Competitive Press was created by Brian Downey in 2002 as a print consulting services company. Brian used his experience in the many lanes of printing to offer associate services and print expertise to customers who needed proficiency and guidance for their brands, image, and products. Initially, the print side of the brand identity world was Competitive Press’s main offering. The best part was, the client didn’t need to understand these nuances, that was Brian’s job to explain and implement this for their branded products.

We have helped our customers grow their brand from infancy stage, to a robust and known entity in their competitive market. The private labeling was our strength. Adding logos and slogans, corporate colors and images directly on their products and their packaging, produced dynamic results.

Taking this experience and then meeting the clients demands of larger quantity of scale items, then pushed us into procurement of items made overseas and in other countries. Since the late 2000’s, we have been working all these facets together.

We are now limitless in our production and manufacturing of products that are needed to represent brand awareness as well as offering components, accessories, parts, and tools that are as functional as a fuel pump, and promotional as an embroidered hat. We get those products made with brand designs on them, and package them and bring them together to market to create a competitive printed product that provides clients with the best of both worlds. We help present the very best branded product for them, with the best printed identity graphics.

How it Changed

An early credo for Competitive Press was “anything that needs your logo printed on it, we can provide!” The art prep, the printing, the manufactured product.

As is always the case in the world, a good vendor changes with their customers as their market changes. Every decade has brought changes and old processes are developed and improved. The print world and manufacturing world is certainly representative of this notion. Most product managers and designers cannot keep up with these changes. We, however, follow these nuances and provide this service.

The combination of Brian’s understanding of firsthand print knowledge, material procurement, outsourcing of labor or production, basic follow up, attention to detail, ability to understand the customer’s needs and concerns is paramount. In the end there is always an economic and financial concern, and we help you meet those needs, or the finished work is meaningless.

How it's Going

Finally, in the late 2000’s we had added import services division called “Competitive Importing” and sourcing from all over the world. We now source products from Far East, Mexico, and India. We choose the right regions, based on their strengths and tariff requirements and transportation lanes. We work with clients who need advice on the accessibility of imported products and the best buy scenarios.

We apply the same standards for overseas production as we do for domestically made products. Art prep and pre-production sample are held to the same standards. The quality packaging and shipping standards are ever more focused upon. We have maintained the same expectations throughout our import tenure as we do with domestically made products. The spirit and effort for importing these products: product quality, product warranty, timing, reporting, cost measuring, and finally the maintenance of quality standards is critical to our customers’ satisfaction.

Mission and Value: OUR Definition of a “Competitive Press Inc.” is manufacturing of goods, imported goods, printing on those goods, and or packaging of them, and finally bringing the finished product to market with the productive results. Each assignment from our client is extremely important. We handle all these functions together. Competitive Press learned that many of the headiest professional’s delegate areas where they recognize they have weaknesses or personnel constraints. Many of the best companies also distinguish outsourcing provides them the best means to manage their core day-to-day business while trusting Competitive Press to be their most important supply chain arms. In the end using us allows our customers to perfect their core business!
